Esslingen am Neckar / at the Neckar river is located at a narrow point in the Neckar Valley, southeast of Stuttgart. The river crosses the urban area. Coming from the municipality of Altbach, the Neckar first touches the Zell district and leaves the urban area between Mettingen and Weil in the direction of Stuttgart. Esslingen am Neckar extends in the east to the height of the Schurwald, in the south the foothills extend to the Filder plain.
The Katharinenlinde - a site with a historical background (pagan sacrificial site) and an observation tower with View to the Swabian Alb.
